From July 23 to 25, 2025, a major industry event focused on zero-carbon development — the 2025 International Zero-Carbon Cities, Villages, and Buildings Conference and Technology & Equipment Expo (referred to as the "International Zero-Carbon Conference") — was grandly held at the Shougang International Convention and Exhibition Center in Beijing.
As a global technology leader in electrification and automation, ABB made a stunning appearance at the event with its complete portfolio of DC products. Located at booth A19-1, ABB became one of the highlights of the entire conference.
At the expo, ABB comprehensively showcased its end-to-end product lineup ranging from solid-state circuit breakers to DC panel switches. Each product reflects ABB’s profound expertise and innovative strength in DC technology. This not only underscores ABB’s pivotal role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and intelligent operation of DC systems, but also demonstrates its unwavering commitment to driving zero-carbon development across the industry.
Notably, ABB’s Xiamen Industrial Center project was awarded the Three-Star Certification for Building PV-Storage-DC-Flexible Systems by the China Association of Building Energy Efficiency. This prestigious recognition acknowledges the project’s outstanding performance in green energy utilization and system integration, as well as ABB’s industry-leading strength in sustainable building solutions.
During the conference, Jiang Ying, Head of the Digital Distribution Systems business at ABB Electrification China, delivered a keynote speech titled “Power + AI: Building a Prosumer-Oriented New Distribution Model”. In her speech, she analyzed the development trends of new power systems amid the ongoing energy transition. She highlighted the shift of distribution networks from traditional passive, one-way systems to active, two-way interactive systems. The demand side is evolving from a “source-following-load” to a “source-load interaction” model.
Jiang emphasized that in the future, microgrid users in industrial parks will assume dual roles as both power consumers and suppliers — forming a “prosumer” model of power distribution. Through AI-driven intelligent agents, energy optimization can be achieved, enabling precise and dynamic coordination of generation, grid, load, and storage. This will significantly enhance energy efficiency and provide strong support for building new power systems.
At this exhibition, ABB also launched its new FlexLite Power smart distribution management solution, which redefines agility and cost-effectiveness in intelligent distribution management with its core advantages of lightweight deployment, flexible configuration, and efficient data analytics. The system can accurately identify high-energy-consuming processes and provide scientific energy-saving strategies, empowering green operations and helping enterprises achieve sustainable development while reducing costs and improving efficiency.
With the rapid rise of distributed energy, the proliferation of microgrids is expected, leading to a significant increase in DC power application scenarios — bringing new challenges to power system operations and management. In response, ABB leverages its globally leading DC technologies and a full range of high-performance DC-specific products, deeply integrates ABB Ability™ digital energy solutions, and draws on rich engineering experience in DC distribution to offer tailored local solutions for various industries. ABB remains committed to serving the Chinese market with smarter solutions, continuously improving energy efficiency, reducing equipment investment and operational costs, and building efficient, intelligent, safe, and green low-carbon DC power distribution systems.
Compared to AC systems, DC distribution systems offer fewer conversion stages, higher energy efficiency, and better power quality, making them an important technical approach for transforming power supply models, enhancing electricity efficiency, and promoting the energy transition. At the exhibition, ABB showcased its strong product capabilities in the “DC World.” With dedicated DC arc extinguishing and breaking technology, ABB’s DC products can quickly detect and interrupt DC system faults, ensuring safe and stable operation.
The extensive lineup of DC products on display included:
Gerapid DC circuit breakers
Emax DC air circuit breakers
Tmax XT DC molded case circuit breakers
OT/OS DC disconnect switches
S200 series DC miniature circuit breakers
DC EWA switch panels
KNX DC smart lighting solutions
These products have been widely applied in sectors such as buildings, energy storage, photovoltaics, UPS batteries, marine, and rail transportation, winning high praise from users for their exceptional performance.
Digital technology is a key driver in building DC distribution networks, enabling end-to-end integration from the device layer, control layer, data layer to the decision-making layer. ABB Ability™ digital energy solutions, through intelligent microgrid management, allow industrial park loads to be flexibly adjusted by 5%–10%. Centered on multi-agent coordinated dispatch, the solution integrates solar PV, energy storage, building load control, and production load control agents, using precise “generation-grid-load-storage” regulation to optimize spatial and temporal load distribution. This reduces the cost per kilowatt-hour, improves energy efficiency, and enhances the responsiveness of demand-side loads via storage systems — supporting the construction of virtual power plants (VPPs).
The ABB Xiamen Industrial Center green microgrid project, powered by ABB Ability™, has built a fully integrated DC microgrid system with islanding capability, significantly improving the park’s energy efficiency and reliability. After being connected to Xiamen’s virtual power plant platform, the project can flexibly control 20% of its load, resulting in a 23% reduction in electricity costs — a model example of green campus construction.
Looking ahead, ABB will continue to deepen its presence in the zero-carbon sector, leveraging advanced technologies, high-quality products, and comprehensive solutions to work alongside industry partners. Together, they aim to accelerate global energy transformation and contribute more to achieving net-zero goals.
As a global leader in electrification and automation, ABB is committed to enabling a more sustainable and efficient future. By combining deep engineering experience with cutting-edge digital technologies, ABB helps industries operate efficiently, enhance energy and productivity, and promote sustainable development — always striving for excellence under the philosophy of "Integrity and Progress."
