Investments in Tennessee and Mississippi facilities to boost production capacity, create 250 jobs, and support energy transition
ABB today unveiled plans to invest $120 million in expanding its U.S. manufacturing footprint, strengthening production capabilities for low-voltage electrification products to meet surging demand from critical growth sectors including data centers, commercial buildings, and utilities. The investment will fund two strategic projects: a new advanced facility in Selmer, Tennessee, and a major expansion of its existing site in Senatobia, Mississippi, collectively creating 250 new jobs.

Driving Growth in America’s Key Industries

“Steady demand for advanced electrification technologies—fueled by expansion in data centers, utilities, and other vital sectors—is driving our commitment to growing in the U.S., ABB’s largest global market,” said Morten Wierod, ABB’s Chief Executive Officer. “These new and expanded facilities will ensure our U.S. customers stay at the forefront of the energy transition, empowering them to achieve their goals for performance, productivity, and energy efficiency.”

Selmer, Tennessee: New Facility to Boost Power Distribution Capacity

A $80 million investment will fund the construction of a 320,000-square-foot facility in Selmer, Tennessee, replacing ABB’s existing operations in the city. Slated to open in Q4 2026, the state-of-the-art plant will increase production capacity by over 50% and focus on manufacturing essential electrical distribution equipment—including busway and bus plug products—for large-scale industrial and technology-driven facilities. These solutions are critical for data centers, factories, and high-rise residential/office spaces where reliable, high-quality power is non-negotiable, enabling seamless facility expansion or reconfiguration without extensive rewiring. The project will add 50 skilled jobs, growing ABB’s Selmer workforce by more than 25%.

Senatobia, Mississippi: Doubling Footprint for Circuit Breaker Production

In Senatobia, Mississippi, ABB will invest $40 million to double the size of its current facility, addressing rising demand for advanced low-voltage circuit breakers across North America. These components deliver the power reliability essential for data center expansion, advanced manufacturing hubs, and renewable energy microgrids, while also supporting upgrades to aging power infrastructure. Set to open in Q2 2026, the expansion will create 200 new jobs, increasing the site’s workforce to over 1,000 employees.

Sustained Commitment to U.S. Innovation and Sustainability

The $120 million investment builds on ABB’s recent U.S. growth trajectory: over the past three years, the company has invested more than $500 million in its U.S. operations. Highlights include a $100 million manufacturing and innovation lab for industrial electric drives in New Berlin, Wisconsin (opened October 2024), and a $40 million factory in Albuquerque, New Mexico (opening April 2025) focused on power grid hardening technologies.
All new ABB facilities integrate cutting-edge sustainable operations, combining the company’s digital and renewable energy solutions to enhance energy efficiency and reduce emissions.

U.S. Market: A Cornerstone of ABB’s Global Growth

In 2024, ABB’s U.S. revenue reached nearly $9 billion, accounting for approximately 27% of the Group’s total. With 17,000 employees across 50 states, the company operates nearly 40 manufacturing, distribution, and operational facilities—including nine major R&D centers—in 20 states. Today, 75-80% of products sold by ABB in the U.S. are manufactured domestically, underscoring its long-term commitment to local production. Since 2010, ABB has invested over $14 billion in U.S. capacity expansion and mergers & acquisitions.
